The Taking Control Programme has

“Thrown me a lifeline”

We   love   receiving   feedback   from   people   that   use   our   services,   it   really   does   make   us   feel   good   inside!   We   loved   one particular letter so much that we wanted to share it with you… This letter was sent into us from a gentleman who took part in our Taking Control Self-Management Programme. “Six    weeks    ago    I    was    invited    to    a    course    being    deliver    by    NICHS,    the    Taking    Control’    Self-Management Programme .’    Day   one   I   found   myself   sitting   in   a   room   full   of   people   I   had   never   met   before,   people   with   varying medical conditions, limitations and fears, but soon I realised we were all pretty much in the same boat.” “Over   the   following   weeks   I   got   to   know   these   people   a   little   better   and   respected   their   honesty,   bravery   and willingness   to   do   as   much   as   they   were   able   to   and   improve   their   quality   of   life,   and   I   found   it   very   easy   to   do   the same.” “The   course   was   informative,   relaxed,   and   at   times   brought   about   a   few   laughs   and   an   equal   amount   of   tears,   but overall   it   was   both   a   pleasure   and   a   privilege   to   be   part   of.   The   life   skills   that   are   explained   throughout   are straightforward,   practical,   but   more   importantly   they   are   doable.   Targets   are   set   by   you   so   there’s   no   added   pressure to do the impossible.” “The   ‘Taking   Control’   Self-Management   Programme   is   a   veritable   ‘Swiss   army   knife’   that   can   help   you   to   overcome many barriers that living with an illness or impairment can bring.” This   course   in   as   little   as   six   weeks   has   literally   thrown   me   a   lifeline,   simple   and   effective   techniques   that   I   think everybody should embrace not just people that have found themselves in a situation for one reason or another.”
